PEOPLE STOP TO THINK, WHEN THEY NO LONGER READ (Diderot)

   A book is one of the greatest wonders in the world.  Long before the invention of printing people valued books as treasure troves of the human knowledge and experience. Hand - written manuscripts took months of writing and were collected by and kept in monasteried with care. Nowdays it's almost impossible to imagine our life without books. Perhaps, there are more books on our planet than men alive. Books play a very important role in human life. Sometimes I hate to see couch potato who spend days sitting at the computers and TVs. A book is a key to knowledge. We learn a lot of new and useful things. The ancients said, ''People stop to think, when they no longer read" (Diderot)

  We can distinguish books between three classes of them. Firstly, books on different branches of knowledge, works by brilliant minds of mankind. Secondly, textbooks, reference books and numerous dictionaries. And at last, books of all kinds and genres to read at leisure. Serious books are to be read conscientiously and maybe more than once. It is food for thought every time we rereads it. Many people prefer reading science fiction, fantasy or detectives stories. There are some advantages and disadvantages of this kind of literature, often reffered to as "easy reading". As for me, god science fiction and fantasy develop imagination, logical thinking, broader one's outlook. The same could be said in favour of detective stories. The masterpieces of this genre show the depth of psychological analysis, the insight into the human nature.

  Books are the source of knowledge and the means of self - perfection. Sometimes it is difficult to solve some problems in life. Looking at the book's characters, we find ourselves or our friends; we learn from the mistakes of others and try to avoid them. Ithink that books can help us. Boohs must be our friends during our life. reading books, we become literate. We fill up our vocabulary. Books are valuable. They need people because they teach us, give advice, help to grow and understand the whole world.
